Should Labor Day be celebrated on a Tuesday?

That was one interesting fact about the start of Labor Day that I covered in a post a few years ago here.

The United States Department of Labor, as you might expect, covers this topic fairly extensively on its website.  According to the DOL, it "is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country"

It has set up a page for Labor Day 2010 – complete with its own logo. The Secretary of Labor has even set up a video on the State of the American Worker (embedded below).

In the meantime, Slate magazine provided its own insights on Sunday into the origins of the holiday, noting that Grover Cleveland was the President who first recognized the holiday.
