To the surprise of absolutely no one, earlier this month Governor Malloy signed the new Paid Sick Leave and the new Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination bills.
With the Governor’s approval, the paid sick leave bill now becomes effective January 1, 2012.
The anti-discrimination provisions of the gender identity bill are effective October 1, 2011.

On Friday, the Appropriations Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly — by a 28-13 vote — passed Senate Bill 63, this year’s version of the paid sick leave bill. The Capitol Watch blog has full details. The Labor Committee had previously approved the measure last month.

Today is the final day of the General Assembly and the Paid Sick Leave proposal (S.B. 217) is expected to come before the House before the close of business. But, perhaps in a sign that it is doomed to die a procedural death, it has drawn nearly 25 proposed amendments.
